Holiday hazards for pets

[layerslider id=”2″]

At White River Kennels we provide the best Weimaraner and Vizsla puppies for sale. We are a top breeder of these beautiful breeds and love all of our dogs. They are part of our family after all. During the holiday season, there are many elements that can be hazardous for our beloved pets. If you are considering adopting one of our gorgeous Weimaraner or Vizsla puppies, make sure you understand the dangers of puppies and holiday décor and food.

Before you deck your halls, read the follow list of holiday hazards for our beloved furry family members:

Food

Hams, cookies and pies, it may seem like a delectable treat is hiding around every corner. Be warned, your pet is taking notice too. Keep your eye on your puppy when you are sitting down to eat. Bones can not only present a choking hazard but if your puppy consumes one, it can become lodged in their stomach or intestines. Throw all your trash away immediately after eating. Candies and chocolates can also be harmful to our four legged curious creatures. To be safe, keep holiday treats where your pet can’t steal them and never offer your puppy people food.

Plants

Holiday plants make beautiful décor around the house but they can be very dangerous to your puppy. Holly, mistletoe, poinsettias and certain ivy are considered toxic to both dogs and cats. If you have committed to making your new puppy a part of your family, consider plastic and silk plants to garner your home. Even a real tree can be a bad idea for the pup. The tree itself is not harmful but the preservatives you may add to the water to keep it fresh are. Pets love to take a little drink from the tree water and this can prove to be very dangerous.

Decorations

Colorful shiny things with string. Your pup is thinking, my toy! Ribbons, bows, ornaments and candles are all possible hazards to Fido. Simply keep candles and decorations where curious paws can’t reach them and never leave your pet alone in a room with the decorations. There is room for all of your Holiday décor and your new pup, just know how to keep them separated.

Gifts

You see a brightly wrapped present but your pup may see something else. Like a chew toy. Wrapping paper is very attractive to happy little puppies. Keep your eye on your presents and when opening gifts, immediately gather up the scraps and discard them.

Enjoy your new puppy from White River Kennels but also enjoy your holidays. Having a new addition to the family, especially a newborn pup is a sacrifice to your traditions, especially holiday décor you don’t even think about. But that small sacrifice is worth all of the effort in the end.

If you are looking for puppies for sale, come visit White River Kennels either in person or virtually. We offer the best Weimaraner and Vizsla puppies around.
