• Avoid pet shop or dealer puppies that are poorly bred and raised and treated as merchandise.
• Avoid those who own a dog but are often not knowledgeable and just think it will be fun to have puppies and sell them.
• If you see signs of neglect such as dirty conditions or lack of water or food, chances are those puppies are not being cared for properly.
• Avoid a breeder who will sell you a puppy under seven weeks old as early separation can affect them both psychologically and physically. Also, avoid a breeder who lets you hold a young pup as there is a risk of transmitting disease before they are vaccinated.

As with any major life change, do your research so that you can ensure you are getting the best puppy from the best breeder. A good breeder will put their puppies concerns over all else and if they think YOU aren’t fit to have one of their babies, they won’t even allow you to take one home.
